SP's Business Students Emerge Champions in International Marketing Competition /// 1:29 pm

Five Diploma in Business Administration (Marketing Management Option) students from Singapore Polytechnic (SP) presented their marketing plan for a pet concierge service called The Pet Keepers at the 5th Annual International Marketing Competition held in October 2008.
As a matter of fact, the DBA students outperformed teams from Nanyang Technological University, the East Asia School of Business, the Chartered Institute of Technology and Nanyang Polytechnic, to emerge as the champions in the local category.

We are the Champions! (From left) Lim Qin Yi, Ang Chze Wee, Soh Chay Ying, Yvonne Chua and Sebestian Soh with the trophy for the local category of the 5th Annual International Marketing Competition.

The team clinched the Gold Award at the competition organised by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Singapore, with their proposal for a one-stop, door-to-door service aimed at pets. The team also outlined how they would promote the business through a variety of different media platforms and events to reach target audiences.

The team's marketing plan drew praise from the judges at the competition, who remarked that the advertising and promotional programme was well-conceptualised and that the market positioning and targeting was realistic for the Singapore market.

Sebestian said, "Taking part in such an international competition makes us realise where we stand in the international arena. He also mentioned that, “This attests to the excellent training and education we receive at SP's School of Business which enabled us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the best from other institutions."

Testimonials /// 1:19 pm

"I had a great time in SP doing my DBA (Diploma in Business Administration). The course had exposed me to wide variety of business theories and skills, which aided me to become a better speaker and a great team player as well. Apart from that, being specialized in LSCM (Logistics and Supply Chain Management) had provided me a great exposure on how air and sea transports were being managed, internal functioning of a warehouse and many more! Besides, we had many field trips to places such as airport and seaports to enhance our further understanding of the modules. I just love to be in DBA!"

Testimonials /// 3:56 pm

" I'm never left alone when I needed help in studies or personal advices because I've a group of teachers who never fail to help and share! Without them, I guess I wouldn’t have made it thus far and achieved that much!
I'm also equipped with the MOST relevant skills and knowledge... because I'm in a school who understands and is always updated with the latest market needs and trends.

Without the highly-relevant course modules, I wouldn't been able to prove my capability when I'm out for intern... I guess that's what makes people impressed.
I'm blessed to be in a school who strongly support its students to excel not just academically BUT ALSO in many other areas... because I'm given the opportunity to be groomed as a leader through overseas and hands-on experiences.

Without all this enchanting moments, my student life would just be as dull and simple like a piece of paper.

All in all, thanks SP for the memorable journey! Few years down the road, when I think back... I guess it gonna be as sweet"

Guide to choosing the right course /// 2:12 pm

The long awaited guide to choosing the right course is now here!

Choosing the right course can have a huge impact on your life!

4 main tips to remember!

Tip #1 Interest / Enjoyment: Do you enjoy the subject?
Interest plays the biggest part when you're choosing the diploma that you would stay with for the next 3 years. If you're interested in how the business world is like and wish to find out more, then perharps a business course would suit you. If it so happens that you detest a particular subject, then the course relating to the subject is definitely a no-no for you. So, the bottom line is, believe in your interest.

Tip #2 Aptitude / Ability: Are you good at the subject?
Say, if you're considering on an engineering course, then you definitely have to be good in your Maths as well as your D&T back in the secondary school days. If you don't fufill this, then being in an engineering course will be a pain to you. Conversely, if you're pretty good in your sciences, then probably a chemical/life sciences course will be the right choice for you. For a business course, the subject is pretty general and you get to learn to speak confidently with good english, present yourself well and not forgetting, to make the business deal. So if you're someone who is good in making your products sell, then business is for you!

Tip #3 Career opportunities/ prospects: Does it gives you a good career?

If the course that you are taking up gives you a wide range of career choices / provides you with good career prospects, you might want to consider it. At the end of the day, everyone needs to put butter on the table.

Tip #4 Follow your heart!

Follow your heart and may you choose the course that suits you best! Of course, we'll be most happy to receive you in SP's Diploma in Business Admin!

PS: Content is based on an experience and guide of a polytechnic student. Should any of the above be untrue / is unapplicable to you, kindly ignore it.
